| Environmental Farming at Willowbrook |
Willowbrook Farm is set in a beautiful part of the Oxfordshire countryside and the entire farm falls within the
Cherwell Valley Environmentally Sensitive Area. Beyond our organic status we seek,
over the coming years, to develop a vibrant ecosystem sustaining a wide variety
of plant and animal life. We have already planted several thousand trees across our
fields and excavated a large pond to encourage a wider range of wildlife onto the farm.
With these, and further planned activities, we hope to provide a pesticide and "harsh cropping" free haven for
local wildlife.
Organic Farming
Organic farming takes a holistic approach to all aspects of food production, from the soil to the consumer.
Organic standards are administered by the soil association and their stated priorities include:
- To treat lifestock ethically, meeting their phyisiological and behavioural needs
- To maintain the long term fertility and biological activity of soils
- To foster biodiversity and protect sensitive habitats and landscape features
- To maximise use of renewable sources and recycling
- To minimise pollution and waste
- To develop ecologically responsible production, processing and distribution chains, emphasising local systems
These are all principles that we feel passionately at Willowbrook and strive to promote.
